Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Due to Hurricane Harvey, our school, as well as the district, has lost funds. This has affected the supplies our principal tries so hard to give our students. My school is located in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. The students must be in a lower income bracket to qualify for pre-k. Many of their parents are either from Hispanic countries or are first generation Americans. It is in the classroom that my four and five year olds first develop their feelings about school, learning how it relates to them. They come in eager and ready to learn about the world around them. They especially love learning through play and art.
My Project
The addition of an iPad will help each child's academic needs to be targeted while working at the same workstation. I can use the iPad for work in math centers, science, and language art centers. The use of an iPad will help my students be prepared for the future in technology.
The children are more engaged and interested in learning using technology rather than paper and pencil activities, plus it is just more FUN!
Magna tiles help develop skills in patterning, spatial reasoning, describing and naming shapes, fine motor development, and composing and modeling shapes.
The light table manipulatives will help my students explore the properties of color and light while building math, language and science skills.
The manipulatives I have chosen will also make learning more engaging. This in turn will help influence their attitudes towards math and science in the future.
