Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from low-income communities while some of them are ESL learners and also bilingual students. My students are mostly living in apartments and have limited ways to stay motivated while learning remotely. The students belong to households where parents are struggling with English and cannot offer enough support at home.

My Project

Our PK-5 students living mostly in apartments in our Title one school have been using ipads and screens for the past two years. They include students with special needs and some of them have occupational therapy services that was remote last year. They are falling behind on many skills including fine motor skills and creative thinking due to lack of good quality educational toys and materials.

The classroom supplies improve student engagement and enable creativity and spacial,math and engineering skills in the STEAM classroom.

The students are attracted to magnetic blocks and even the ones with short attention spans are able to stay engaged for a long period. These materials are a precursor to building their engineering skills for project-based learning assignments.
