My students need a printer and toner to print STEAM projects.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My middle school students have little to no access to creative learning opportunities in the field of computer science (STEAM). Their access to printers and computers on campus to learn coding and to develop computational thinking skills is non-existent. Our students have two printers in the library that are primarily used testing.
The school my students attend is a Title I public school where all students receive free meals.
The majority of my students come from a low socioeconomic background. It is for this reason that access to printers and computers in their homes is limited or not available at all. My students are eager to learn about advances in technology, but they lack access to devices and basic internet and printing services. The access my students do have is when they are at school; however, their use of printers at school is limited to intervention, interim assessments and end of year testing. Class electives that teach them anything related to computers are not available for my students. STEM careers specifically coding and computational thinking-necessary skills for the demands of the 21st century-would further provide equity and access for my students.
My Project
My students need a powerful printer to write, edit and print their STEAM writing projects. My students need a printer to discover STEAM careers and print information. To be successful in technical fields, individuals must also be creative and use critical thinking skills which are best developed through exposure of the arts. Students will share Algebra 1 projects and findings during open house.
My students will use this versatile printing device, workbooks and how-to books that will allow them a concrete experience with the latest technological advances in hybrid computer/tablets currently in STEAM careers.
They will be able to print the introductory concepts in the art of computer programming using several resources.
My students will be able to access free online teaching sites for programming, such as Code.org and Codeacademy and print their research.
For example, they can relate their learning of algebraic functions to the functions they can write as they learn to code/program. There are not enough students in middle school learning the computer printing skills that will be required by 21st-century STEAM careers. Culminating projects will be shared with parents during Open House.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
