Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is an elementary school that services students from Kindergarten to 5th grade. We are located in the middle of a diverse and dense urban population. We are part of a bilingual community learning in a dual language classroom. My students are full of energy and eager to learn therefore I'm always looking for ways to keep them focused and ready to take action.

We are a Title I school that serves low-income families from different cultural backgrounds.

My Project

It is no secret that the recent catastrophic natural disasters have been altered by the harsh effects of climate change. Our students are witnessing history as these disasters occur around the world. It is also our students who can become the leaders in educating their communities about our environmental responsibility. Importantly, educating the community about our ability to significantly reduce the effects of climate change if we make adjustments to our way of living.

Our students will learn the science behind climate change and natural disasters as well as our responsibility in reducing some of its effects.

We will go through a series of lessons to explore the NGSS to learn about these important topics. Through the art materials students will create art pieces inspired by their learning. They will also create storyboards that they will use in the development of public service announcements to educate their peers, families, and community about the importance of environmental responsibility. The headphones will help our students edit their iMovies in publishing their final PSAs (Public Service Announcements). Together we can lead the way in creating change and taking care of the planet that takes care of us!
