This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Please help my students learn about the animal kingdom! I would love to give them the opportunity to weave art into their science study, to motivate them and make their science lessons come to life!

We will begin a science unit study on animals that will include art.

Visiting a working zoo will help them make connections to the science themes in this unit study. Before the trip, we will read non-fiction books about the animals we will be seeing, books that will provide information about the various types of animals and their major structures and habitats. We will make predictions about what we will see and look to see if our predictions are correct. We will take photographs and note the color and shape of the animals we are seeing. Once back at school, we will use what we learned to create animal collages around our classroom and school. We will paint, draw, cut and assemble scenes for various types of animal groups, such as reptiles, birds, fish and mammals. We will turn our classroom into our own zoo! Infusing art into the daily routines of study will motivate the students. It is fun to be creative and art will make our unit study memorable.

My Project

With transportation and admission tickets, we will be able to visit the zoo. Seeing the very animals we have been reading about, up close, will ensure that the children have the understanding of how these animals look, sound, smell and behave. Included in the zoo visit is an animal show, which will provide information about behavior of the animals and the habitats that they live in. While at the zoo, we will take photographs of the animals we will be recreating back at school. The paint brushes, rail-board and markers will be used at the painting easel and dry-erase boards in art experiences that will include painting, drawing and assembling animal scenes that will go up on bulletin boards and walls around the classroom and school. Using art, the students will be able to express what they have learned in their science study.

Your donation will provide a meaningful experience for a wonderful group of students.

They will study about many different animals, take a trip to a local zoo to see these animals up close, and participate in art experiences that will excite them and stir their interest in learning. Their learning will be on display in our classroom and hallways in the form of animal collages and habitat scenes for everyone to see.
