Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 5th-grade class is full of unique personalities. Innovative, creative, funny, and hardworking are words to describe my students. They love to write and read in the library. My students explore reading and writing together with a positive outlook. I am building life-long readers, lovers of literature, creative thinkers, and effective writers.
We actively work on STEM projects ALL the time, incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, and mathematics but the lack of technology is an issue here.
We are a room of authors, mathematicians, scientists, poets, teachers, and learners!
My Project
Having the set of Chromebooks will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom. One way they will be used is as a STEM center. Due to the natural disaster that recently occurred in Florida, the students want to research ways to filter clean water in times of need. Students can conduct research on aquifers and then design their own using nothing more than natural items. Another way they will be used is by recording the results of an experiment. Students could take pictures of their results at different time intervals and record observations through notes. They could collaborate on group findings by sharing through the cloud. Additionally, I could download apps for various reading and writing practice skills for a reading and writing center, which would allow me to have activities for both my highest performing and most struggling students.
My project will make a difference because, as I said before, these students are the digital natives.
Our classrooms are not yet at the level technologically to meet their needs as learners. This grant will help to close that gap just a little bit more.
