This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are faced with many challenges every single day, but now more than ever. They live in an extremely low-income community. They are faced with violence and drugs and often live in crowded homes. The school provides them with a safe environment in which they can build upon their character and intelligence. Since school closures, my students have been faced with greater challenges. They need as much support as their teachers can give them.

My Project

As we transition into in-person learning, most of my students are being very resilient as they struggle to fill in gaps and cope with social-emotional issues. They are all trying their best, and that's all I can ask for. Having certain materials, however, really helps.

These materials will help students have fun while developing their social-emotional well-being.

We have used Legos in the past for extra-curricular activities that students can build in small groups. This has helped in building cooperation and social skills. The Lego sets will be used during creative time for students to work with teams while having fun. The Minibrands will be used as incentives for participation and cooperation. These materials will really help my students be more motivated during academic time.
