My Project
Math doesn't have to be dull! In fact, it is an exciting, hands-on subject that students grow to love. When students start 8th grade math in my classroom, many are filled with anxiety from past experiences. I work the entire year to show them role models that can inspire them, art projects that make math beautiful, and interactive notebooks that organize all of their thoughts and pictures.
By the time they are a few months in, my students are amazed to hear themselves saying that they love math.
The Wheel of Theodoras is a beautiful way to teach about the Pythagorean Theorem, a poster about a black, female NASA scientist conveys to my students that there are people who look like them contributing great things to science. By infusing my math class with art, music, engineering, and creativity, students grow to love math. And if they love math, they will achieve great things!
