My Students

Our typical day in first grade is nothing like when you or I were in first grade! My amazing students are writers, readers, scientist, and yogis, and they are using technology in ways that help them grow in all areas. My students are playful, eager learners, and they are very loving. I teach at a school that fosters a safe and structured environment for students to learn. It is a very welcoming place where students feel comfortable to be themselves.

I am the blessed teacher of 20 bright, inquisitive and creative first graders.

Although our school district does everything it can to provide as many resources as possible for our students, often the resources I would like to provide for my students are simply unavailable due to funding which is the case in most public districts!

My Project

This year I am incorporating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) into the curriculum to challenge my students to become problem solvers, collaborators, innovators, and engineers. Students will develop a love for math, science, and the arts by solving real world problems and while participating in hands-on challenges. I am requesting STEAM materials that will encourage my students to solve problems while thinking like scientists, engineers, mathematicians and more. We will use Zoob Builders, K'Nexs, Vehicle Engineering Centers and more to foster emergent engineering skills which allow creativity to evolve. These are all real world skills that will make for successful 21st Century Learners.

By participating in these activities, my students will learn to communicate, collaborate, be creative, and think critically – all skills they will need to be successful in our changing world!
