My students need 2 "Know The Artist" poster sets, "Discovery of Art" DVDs, 17 art books, "Picasso and the Girl with the Ponytail", and 2 cans of Workable Fix.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our elementary school just become a "STEAM" school. Art has always been a "STEAM" area because it includes science, math, engineering and technology. Art is a wonderful subject because it can provide many interdisciplinary connections across the board. It enriches the lives of those who enjoy it.
My students are elementary art students who love to express themselves using art media of any sort.
Our school is Title One and in a very impoverished area of a large city. The parents are new to our country and very eager for their children to get a good education. And, living in a very impoverished community makes it difficult to have beautiful surroundings, trees and parks. The art the students are able to make beautifies their homes and hopefully offers some comfort of living in a new country.
My Project
I am requesting books, posters and dvd's. My students will be able to learn to read about art with the book, "Picasso and the Girl with the Ponytail." They are ELL learners and this will help them learn to read in English as well as develop their art literacy. And, as they are developing their language they will also work on their art work. They will be able to draw pictures of the artists we are studying in the dvd's, reading about in the books or looking at on the posters. Developing these skills while they are learning English will be important brain food. Hopefully they will associate learning English with cultural activities in the art room. They can use critical and creative thinking skills to make connections between art and other disciplines in our school.
Art is a great connecting subject between science, technology, engineering and math.
The art students will also be able to use their requested items in their ELL English learning. They will see the artwork the artists created as well as learn about their lives and role in history. Art is a universal language, and students will benefit from these resources in many different ways that will be a part of their lives.
