Our school is a special program for students with emotional and behavioral needs. Teachers, associates, and therapists work with students in 3rd-8th grade to support their academic and social emotional growth. My 6th graders work tremendously hard to master our learning standards, but we also take time to develop our individual strengths and broaden our understanding of others. We incorporate STEAM activities into language arts and math which allow students to build and design.
Our students are innovators, risk-takers, and active problem-solvers who excel when given project-based opportunities that tap into their creativity and generosity.
Students constantly amaze me, and I look forward to each smile, each act of happiness, and their desire to learn more! I am thankful I was selected to be their teacher.
My Project
What makes learning more exciting? Hands-on activities. Our class is studying mythology and we need a few more books. Stealing Zeus will make this unit come to life in game form. Our science unit is focusing on matter- which is hard to imagine something as small as an atom. Elements, Molecules, and Reactions books will allow us to connect our knowledge through visual representations. The science lab materials will allow us to see chemical change.
Learning comes to life when students engage with the knowledge through hands-on activities, games, and experiments.
Super absorbent polymer, water beads, glow powder, super bouncy ball kits all make science ideas happen in front of the students. Math skills are mastered with games such as Make 7, Blokus, and close the box. Building our skills with fun activities will keep our class motivated and on track.
