Stealing Shakespeare - A Cross-Curricular Endeavor
Help me give my students the opportunity to tie their learning in English to their learning in Social Studies by reading The Shakespeare Stealer during their Renaissance unit.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Kelley's classroom raised $741

My Students
Our students are hardworking learners who strive to do their best in the classroom, their community, and at home. As part of a large district, and with a growing poverty level currently at 58%, our students face many challenges. They rise to them, however, with grace and a hunger for success and knowledge.
Every challenge Plaza Pacers encounter is another opportunity for success.
Teachers and students set a high bar, whether that regards learning standards, expectations, or creation, and students work hard to rise to the occasion.
My Project
Students will read The Shakespeare Stealer by Gary Blackwood, a text that will tie in directly with their Social Studies unit on the Renaissance time period, and complete activities that will promote deeper learning.
Research shows that cross-curricular teaching provides students with deeper learning opportunities, and increases the relevance of their studies.
Coordinating English texts with historical timelines and scientific discoveries of a period allows students to see the full picture. Using engaging texts such as The Shakespeare Stealer to pique student interest will ensure that deep learning is possible. Not only will they learn about the time period from their Social Studies teacher, they will be able to visualize it through the eyes of a near-in-age narrator, increasing the relevance and realism.
More than half of students from low‑income households
