This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Good morning, get a textbook, find a seat, take out your notebooks and get ready to learn! My students are 6th, 7th and 8th graders, all eager to learn and also appear lazy (they are in middle school, you know.)
I am their science teacher.
They come from all over the city, all with different backgrounds and many of them speak more than one language. They ask a lot of questions, interrupt each other often, and work hard to complete their assignments. They are genuinely excited when they finally understand something and are happy to share their success with others. All the students in my class have learning disabilities, and they work at not letting their disabilities get in the way of their success. Each of them is fantastic!
My Project
My students need 12 subscriptions to Science World, Grades 6-10 and 12 to SuperScience, Grades 3-6. Students will use the magazines after they have completed assignments to learn more, to research, and to gain an understanding of current events in science. The magazine articles often lead to very dynamic discussions and inspire students to ask more questions and find out more about topics they are interested in. Additionally, these magazines can be sent home so that students have reading material to read and to share.
By providing these magazines to the students in our classroom, you will significantly impact the daily learning of 60 students.
Science will come alive! They will become more eager and motivated to learn and participate.
