Our students come to us with many special needs. Not only academic needs, but social-emotional needs as well. And for the vast majority, the economic outlook is not great. As Fire Prevention Week approaches in October, I would like to be able to outfit as many students as possible with these smoke detectors to take home to their families.
We take Fire Prevention Week every seriously here and fill the week with many activities and lessons related to fire safety.
In the time I have taught here at our school, we have lost two small boys to house fires - and fires have claimed the homes and possessions of other families. We all know how important it is to have at least one fire detector in every home and this project is our way to start.
