My Students

I have an amazing group of second grade students! My students are part of a Dual Language Immersion program which allows English learners and English proficient students to receive instruction in English and in Mandarin to develop academic proficiency.

I have a very diverse group of students.

Our school is a Title I-funded school, with a very high level of poverty. With this pandemic, many families have had to deal with the loss of jobs, which has caused additional financial strain. Nonetheless, they know that through education, they will be able to better their lives and change the world in a positive way.

Help me bring in the necessary materials to help me support my students through this challenging time.

My Project

We’re all spending more time at home these days due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That means kids are spending more time with screens than ever. I want to make sure my students are staying active by training for our soccer team no matter where they are. I want to help enhance their interest and their skills in soccer with some better equipment. The game of soccer will keep the students active while learning a sport.

The social benefits of exercise are unparalleled for building self-esteem and confidence, especially during the pandemic.

I want to provide balls and protective shin guards for my students to use at home to continue our soccer team training from home. Distant learning has made it difficult to continue with our sports team because the students don't have the equipment. With the requested balls, it will help my students improve their control of the ball from head to toe technique and increase passing and receiving ability, and overall footwork. These drills and practices will build endurance and improve coordination. They will work as a team and support each other in learning the game of soccer.

Soccer is a team sport and I think that learning the game will teach them to depend on each other as they have a common goal. I hope working together will carry into the classroom. We need our students healthy so that they perform better academically.
