This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This upcoming year, I will be teaching 8th graders with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) as a Resource Specialist. My students are bright and eager to learn. After their first year back in the classroom after virtual learning, my students are ready to start again at school with a fresh start. In my new classroom, there is no air conditioning and the desks that I have to use are single tables attached to chairs. From early April to late October, the weather in our classroom often soars beyond 90 degrees. My students are unable to focus and stay engaged since it is so hot. Their current student desks are uncomfortable to sit in and many of my students require alternative seating.
Magnetic screen doors will allow for a cross breeze through my two doors on opposite sides of my classroom while keeping pests out, and a half moon table will allow me to facilitate group learning.
As a resource specialist, it is so important for me to work with smaller groups of students at a time. Having a half moon table would allow me to work with three or four students at a time while monitoring their work and providing support.
