We are lucky enough to be a one to one iPad school district. However, when we switched to the latest iPads there was no longer a place to plug in the students' headphones. Throughout the school day, I teach first through fifth graders in the media center. Not all of our students have headphones and the ones that have them do not have adapters. We had a generous donor donate enough headphones for the media center. My goal is to have enough adapters so that all of the students can use these headphones.
Students need headphones in order to work independently on lessons and at stations around the library.
Students need headphones to work individually on self paced Nearpod lessons. These differentiated lessons allow students to move at a pace that works best for them on a lesson that meets their specific needs.
We also have several programs that are self paced and require headphones.
Students work on Digital Citizenship using the program Learning.com. They work their way through the a digital world by watching and interacting with videos and answering questions. Our third through fifth graders use a career connected literary system called Beable. In this program they read passages based on what careers they are interested in. The passages are written on their individual reading levels. Both of these programs are done independently and at the students' own pace.
I work at a Title I-funded school where one hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students are unable to buy the extras for the classroom like headphones and adapters. By having these adapters in the library at each table students would be able to come to the library and access their lessons quickly and efficiently.
