My Project
Beginning next school year, I will step into a new role as the In-School Suspension(ISS) teacher at Sousa Middle school. In this position, I will be responsible for supervising students assigned to ISS, ensuring they stay engaged with their academic responsibilities and continue their education in a structured and supportive environment.
I have proudly served at this school for the past nine years, and throughout that time, I have observed a consistent pattern of students repeatedly receiving disciplinary suspensions. In response, I am committed to not only supporting students during their time in ISS but also promoting positive behavior school-wide through a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) rewards initiative.
To encourage and recognize students who consistently stay out of disciplinary trouble, I plan to implement a monthly reward drawing. All students who remain referral-free during the month will be eligible to participate. Incentives will include items that are popular among our middle school students, such as Stanley cups, novelty pens, stickers, and mini stuffed animals. These small but meaningful rewards are intended to serve as tangible motivators that reinforce good decision-making and personal accountability.
My goal is to create a positive school culture where students are motivated to succeed both behaviorally and academically. I believe that by celebrating and rewarding positive choices, we can reduce the number of suspensions and empower our students to thrive.
