Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach high school kids from all around New York City. They come from different boroughs and neighborhoods all trying to get away from violent gangs and trying to focus on their education. They are a great group of kids who are always looking for ways to learn new things about technology. They come to the classroom filled with interest and creative minds. More than a positive attitude and thirst for learning, these kids come to my classroom with empty stomachs and excessive troubles brought about by homelessness and other social issues from their communities. They often ask if I have food or water to give them because they are feeling hungry and have not had a decent meal.

My Project

My students come from impoverished communities and are in need of some sources of nourishment and hygienic supplies. Some of the materials they have requested are snacks such as Grandmas cookies, Oreo cookies, and bottles of water that will give them a boost of energy when they feel hungry. Other materials they have requested are for keeping themselves clean, fresh, and hygienic everyday such as Arm and Hammer deodorant, Always feminine pads, toothpaste, soft soap, paper towels and dish washing soap. Students usually get the snacks and other supplies during class and after school. Having these materials will help them have a better start in school, as it will keep them healthy and hygienic.
