Station to Station: This Is How We Thrive!

Help me give my students new classroom areas to learn. My students need areas in my classroom to learn activities of daily living like laundry and sorting (folding table, baskets) and help them deal with their sensory needs.

My Students

My students are inspired by many different things. I try to find different creative ways to help keep them motivated to participate each and every day.

I teach a 6:1:1 class of students with autism in a middle school for students with special needs in New York City.

My students use routine and structure to help them throughout the day. Many of them are visual learners who thrive on independent work. They are highly motivated by positive feedback and incentives.

My Project

My students need access to every subject in class. Besides academic subjects, my students need to be able to develop daily life skills such as sorting and laundry (using the table, laundry baskets and tshirt folder to create a workstation).

Learning these skills can give them opportunities to be more independent in life outside of the classroom.

These skills can help them with potentially gaining jobs and living by themselves!

When learning at these workstations become too overwhelming to them, my students need an area to decompress and relax so that they can rejoin their classmates and continue working with their peers and teachers.
