I teach 23 first graders in a low-income/high poverty district in East Texas. My students come from working families that value education but do not always have the resources or educational background to provide reinforcement of skills learned at school. When they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Despite the challenges both in and out of the classroom, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are clever, imaginative and very spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. They deserve the best education possible. These students need materials that will help keep their interest and motivate their desire to learn.
My Project
Children love to work in groups and use hands on kits to learn. Students do not respond well to paper and pencil worksheets at their desks. They like to explore learning in a fun way.
Please consider giving to develop a lifelong love for learning in each child.
My students LOVE the few kits that we already have and are looking forward to more opportunities to engage in what they call "fun stations". While students are in stations, I work with small groups of students at the back table targeting specific skills. The station kits will allow groups of students to work independently and take ownership of their learning.
