My Students

I teach 23 first graders in a low-income/high poverty district in East Texas. My students come from working families that value education but do not always have the resources or educational background to provide reinforcement of skills learned at school. When they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Despite the challenges both in and out of the classroom, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are clever, imaginative and very spontaneous.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. They deserve the best education possible. These students need materials that will help keep their interest and motivate their desire to learn. I have taught first grade for 5 years and been a member of ATPE for all of them. I love what I do and love ATPE.

My Project

My students are excited about school. I want to encourage their excitement by providing them with activities that are engaging and exciting. I do not like using worksheets for a reading station and these station kits will help stop all the worksheets. My students need items such as sight word and CVC word box kits. The literacy stations will encourage independence and self-checking. EVERY CHILD should love learning. School should be fun and not full of papers papers papers. The literacy magic boards will allow students to write spelling and sight words. We also need counting and subtraction kits for our math station time. Independant premade box kits will make transitions move smoothly so that each child can be in charge of themselves. (We are working on our seven habits. Habit #1 is BE PROACTIVE - I'm in charge of myself.) We are looking forward to using these stations.
