This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students of poverty and second languages need every opportunity they can to practice reading and improving their reading and English skills. Every student wants to be successful and longs to be a good reader. I want to help my students learn to read by providing fun learning centers to work at.
The students I work with are from low income families and English is primarily their second language.
Reading is often a struggle for them but they continue to work hard and improve their skills every day. It is sometimes difficult to keep them motivated. New learning centers and creative ways of practicing reading are always a fun and motivating way to continue improving reading skills. I work together with the students playing games and using strategies and incentives that will motivate them to continue reading as well as help them become better readers.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of new games and centers that the students and I can play together. Centers are a great way to touch on a variety of reading skills at once and address the various needs of the students I work with. Centers are also a great way to limit the amount of time students spend on any one skill so that they are always working on different skills and not getting too bored or overwhelmed with one.
Literacy is really their key to success.
Without the ability to read, our students do not have a lot of opportunities when they get older. If they are successful now in the elementary grades, they are more likely to continue with their success. Fun and exciting ways of learning are one way to ensure reading success.
