This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Having an environment that promotes reading is essential. Research shows that if a child is not reading by the age of nine that he/she has a higher chance of dropping out of high school. It is my mission this year to get all 28 of my third graders reading.

My students live in the inner city.

Their neighborhood is mostly made up of factories. One block away from school homeless people camp out to receive their meals from the local soup kitchen. Poverty is evident all around. Students lack basic essentials such as books, school materials and decent living spaces. Yet, every day they come to school eager to learn and succeed.

My Project

I am requesting a carpet and two bean bag chairs to create a comfortable reading corner for my students where they can relax and fall in love with reading. I am also requesting Reading Progress Folders so that each student can set reading goals and have a place to monitor and access their reading progress. It is essential that students use their personal reading data to attain reading goals. Finally I am also requesting Intermediate Reading Trackers. Many students that struggle with reading get lost in text very easily, but with the help of these Intermediate Reading Trackers students will be able to have the text they are reading highlighted.

Please help my student have a successful third grade.

Third grade is a critical year where students need to successfully master reading and reading comprehension. Please help us all reach reading proficiency with the help of these much needed resources.
