My students need supplies to stay healthy (cleaning wipes, tissues), safe (a shredder to maintain confidentiality), and supported (therapy materials targeting vocabulary and written language).

My Students
I am very lucky to work with young students ranging from Kindergarten through 5th grade who attend Speech and Language Therapy. This service helps students learn skills to strengthen their ability to communicate with their peers, teachers, and families. The students I support benefit from an environment that promotes health, learning, and safety.
The children that receive speech & language services have a strong desire to succeed and can do that effectively when they start the year with the supplies they need!
My Project
All students deserve to begin each school year with the supplies they need for a successful year! This project will provide much needed supplies for my students to stay healthy, be supported academically, and be safe.
Students enter my therapy room over 40 times per week bringing with them a desire to learn, challenges in speech and language skills, and lots of germs!
Having a large supply of tissues and disinfecting wipes available from the start of the school year will assist in minimizing the spread of germs and facilitate more time for learning.
Some of the challenges my students face are in the areas of vocabulary knowledge and written language. My students benefit from simple visual supports and repeated practice to develop stronger language skills. One particular skill that many of my students find challenging is using strong and specific vocabulary words when expressing their ideas orally and in writing. The Shades of Meaning Fans will assist students across grade-levels in learning a variety of vocabulary words that they can use during therapy and classroom activities. This is a resource they can learn to use independently. The Correct the Sentence Journal will provide repeated and quick practice in editing and revising, which will allow for other areas to be targeted during 30 minute sessions.
Throughout the school year, I accumulate confidential documents. These include IEPs, evaluation reports, student data sheets, and student work. When I no longer need these items, it is essential that I have a way to dispose of them, so that my students’ identities are not compromised. A shredder within my therapy room will allow me to destroy these documents in a safe and secure manner. Students and parents can rest assured that confidential information is discarded properly.
