Starting the Year Out Right: For Students With Autism

My students need classroom basics to start off the new year including a laminator, rolling stool, and pocket chart.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Marber's classroom raised $380

This project is fully funded

My Students

Our class is comprised of 8 amazing students with autism across three grade levels who learn in many different ways. Our students come from different wards from within DC, not just from the surrounding neighborhood. Our class is a self-contained classroom, which means that the majority of each students' learning takes place within our room. Many of our students also receive some instruction in the general education setting and are able to interact and socialize with their typically developing peers throughout the day.

Autism is a developmental disability that affects the way our students interact and communicate with others.

Autism is a spectrum disorder and our students' skills and abilities fall all over the range of the spectrum. We have students who are approaching grade level academically as well as students who are not yet communicating verbally. Each of our students is unique and has their own strengths, gifts, and support needs. All of our students need support in the areas of communication, behavior, social interaction, and daily living skills.

My Project

Although school year '17-'18 has just recently ended, we are already thinking of ways to improve our class and be prepared for our new students coming to our room for next school year. We are requesting materials that will make out room even better for this school year.

We are requesting a laminator to make resources last over time, organization items such as a paper holder, pocket chart, and scrapbook cart to keep our class running smoothly, and a custom name stamp so that all students are able to label their work.

Additionally, we are requesting an rolling stool which will allow instruction to occur directly at student desks in the center of the room. This will allow us to assist students and provide necessary prompting directly for each student as well as store materials within the stool.

All of the materials requested will make a great impact on how our classroom runs and will increase efficiency which will in turn allow more time to plan meaningful individualized lessons for all. We appreciate your support and look forward to these materials being funded.
