My students need classroom supplies because many cannot afford their own.

My Students
At my school we have students from all over the economic and cultural spectrum. One thing that they all have in common, though, is how much they love our school. The combination of our dedicated staff, our various STEAM programs, and the opportunities provided by our magnet program, attracts students from all over the district, and we love each and every one of them.
For the past year, I have been assigned to teach ESL, which includes a particularly vulnerable group of students.
Despite their disadvantages, though, I have never met a more motivated group of kids. They come in each day eager to learn about not only the English language and American culture, but everything else that the American dream promises them.
I am in awe every day as these children who have overcome so much work hard to continue to learn and to grow. The purpose of this project is to make sure that a lack of supplies does not serve as yet another obstacle to their short and long-term success.
My Project
Many of my students cannot afford the basic essentials that they need in order to be successful in class. As teachers we do our best to make sure that our classrooms fully-stocked dens of creativity and learning, but on our salaries we can only do so much to supplement our classes and make them the best learning spaces possible.
Our school has expanded immensely over the past few years, and now all of our ESL students are receive ELA instruction in trailers outside of the building.
The Gorilla tape is the strongest material we have to ensure that the posters and necessary learning materials we use stick to the walls for maximum student benefit. The cork board will be used to display student work.
The hanging folders will be used to personalize learning and maintain student accountability. Students will walk in each day and grab their folder, which will at times have content that is specific to them. This way, students can receive the differentiated instruction that they need without exposing their learning progress to the other students in the class.
The wall map will encourage cultural dialogue by allowing students to identify their countries of origin and show pride in their roots.
The chalkboards will be used for progress monitoring, where students can communicate with the teacher without drawing excessive attention to their needs.
All other supplies are basics that the students need to be successful in the classroom on a daily basis.
