My students need a classroom equipped with the basic supplies to get us off to a good start and new options for floor seating to ensure we are all comfortable. WE need carpet squares, paper and more.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Friendships, the joy of reading, Greek gods, insects, and immigrants...these are a few of the topics that my students and I will investigate this year. I am excited to guide them through these explorations and participate in their growth as readers, writers, artists, storytellers, and individuals.
Our goal as a bilingual community is to foster our students' development linguistically, academically, culturally, socially, and emotionally.
We want our learning environment to be a supportive, collaborative, and engaging space, where students can develop their individual voices and have the confidence to share their thoughts and ideas.
As a teacher, I constantly grow and learn with my students, as together we explore new worlds, new skills, and new relationships. This wondrous process can occur anywhere and anytime, but with the necessary supports, it can be more fluid and constant, laying the foundations for lifelong engagement in learning and discovery.
My Project
A new school year means new students, new projects, and lots of first day jitters and excitement for the surprises and joys that the year will bring. It also means lots of new worksheets, new signs, new ways of organizing the classroom, and a great need for new supplies.
The ideal classroom is one where our collaborative process of learning is at the forefront, and where we always have access to the supplies and tools that we need.
With this project, we will start our year with those materials: pencils for writing our thoughts and ideas; crayons for creating those first-day-of-school self portraits; paper for worksheets, drawings, and the occasional paper plane; plastic sleeves to protect our work; and other resources like boxes and a stapler that will be used to organize our supplies and work.
Students should view their new classroom as a comfortable, safe place for growth, learning, and discovery, and this includes physical comfort. Our new carpet squares will allow growing bodies to sit more comfortably and provide flexibility for different seating arrangements. The library card envelopes will be posted on the wall with student names as a way to record and highlight examples of positive behaviors. The long-reach stapler will permit the stapling of student-created books.
