Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a diverse community. My school is safe place where all members of our diverse community learn side by side with one another. My classroom is an ICT classroom where students with special needs are integrated into a general education classroom.

It is my school's mission to welcome and celebrate all peoples and to nurture them to be more reflective, cooperative, and kindhearted.

More than 96% of our students are poor enough to qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

My students need tote bags, notebooks, literacy games, and other classroom items in order to create an organized classroom community with routines that help set them up for a successful year of growth. In a classroom that is heavy with bilingual and ELL it is very important that we create opportunities for students to communicate with one another and have as much access as possible to the target language, English. Our students will use the literacy and grammar games, puzzles, letter stamps and tiles to explore and practice the content being learned in the classroom. Our students will use the canvas tote bags to keep their personal books from the class library. In an effort to be green we have chosen these bags instead of plastic ones which break throughout the year. Students can also decorate these bags to practice artistic expression. The students will use the notebooks for ELA subjects to keep their work in one place and have developmentally appropriate lines to be able to write on and work on their hand writing at the same time! The containers and bins will allow for the students and teachers to have space to be able to keep the material organized and for the students to have access to the materials.

Creating routines with book baggies, notebooks, and literacy games, and the other materials will help students rise to the standards which we have set for them in this 2016-2017 school year.

With these materials our students will be better able to make their personal goals of one year's growth no matter where they stand in September.
