This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine entering a classroom on a first day and being told that you have to follow and quickly write... The problem is that you don't have these materials to help you write, so what do you do? Ask your teacher for support and she is always ready to help.

As a Special Education teacher, I work with a variety of students in different grade levels ranging from Kindergarten through Fifth grade.

My students come from a neighborhood in which poverty is high. Some of our students live in a shelter, foster care and housing projects. Approximately, one fourth (25%) of our student population is identified as special needs students and require extra support and differentiated instruction. Our schools seeks to provide support to the students and their families in many different ways.

My Project

With the requested materials, I plan to create a variety of activities to enhance my students' learning. For example, I plan to use the toobaloos as a way for my students to focus on the sounds they are pronouncing when reading. I want them to hear themselves and see if they may sense when reading. This will help them be more focused and to monitor their reading. The book buddies will help them keep their weekly reading activity in one place. The folders and paper clips will keep their other work organized in one place for easy retrieval. The paper that will be provided will be utilized to print out activities for practice and to enhance their learning. In addition, it will serve as the material to send notes home to parents about their child's progress. The pen and pencils will allow my students the opportunity to express themselves through the writing process and to show how they edit their work. Other materials will serve as support for teacher to enhance the lessons.
