Starting the New School Year Off on the Right Foot!
My students need basic supplies to finish this school year strong and start the new year off on the right foot! My students need notebooks, pencils, and tape.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is full of eager learners. A typical day in our class is a mixture of lots of learning and TONS of fun. I've been blessed with students who love school, especially math! My goal is to grow my students' love for math by helping them to get a deeper understanding of the subject.
I have 64 fifth graders that range in age from 10-11.My students come from various cultural and economic backgrounds.
Our school is in a high poverty urban area in NYC, in which many families are faced with a low income. Our school atmosphere is absolutely amazing. Students, teachers, and other faculty and staff operate as one big family. The students are eager to learn and impress their parents, teachers, principal, and community. They go above and beyond each day to make us all proud.
My Project
Many of my students are not able to bring in the supplies listed on the supply list. I don't want this to hinder their ability to perform in class. I am requesting supplies needed by students to begin the school year.
Many parents will buy 1 notebook and expect it to last throughout the school year.
In reality, it lasts about 1/2 the year. Students start using looseleaf paper and become unorganized. Same thing with pencils. Some come with unsharpened pencils or no pencils at all!. The classroom also needs basic supplies like tape and staplers to help the kids organize their work.
The colored pencils are also for organization to color code their writing and color in visual models they make for math. I also need packing tape to hang actor charts for visual images to help visual learners.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
