This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a wonderful group of students in a high poverty neighborhood. The children I teach have the same drive to learn as students in more affluent neighborhoods.

I have been teaching in this same neighborhood for 10 years and for the past 10 years, I have seen parents struggle to buy basic supplies for their children.

They often have to choose whether to buy school supplies or food, needless to say, the parents chose to buy food. A lack of supplies can really hurt a student's self esteem.

My Project

I have been teaching for the past 10 years and I am always amazed at how much knowledge my children want to absorb. They are naturally inquisitive and they enjoy having classroom discussions and debates. The wonderful donors on Donorschoose have graciously gifted me Chromebooks, microscope, notebooks, and expansion kits for my robotics program. These items have been very helpful in my classroom because they allow my students to explore and think out of the box. I was able to use these items to make lessons more engaging for my students.

Unfortunately, I teach in a very poor district and sometimes it is hard for parents to buy the basic supplies their children need, and no child should be too poor to get a quality education.

Each child needs a notebook for every subject and the notebooks, pencils, and folders will allow all of my students to receive the materials they need for the year and no child will have to be embarrassed about not having their school supplies. The pocket chart will act as the student's mailboxes and important letters and homework they may have missed will be placed in their mailbox. The copy paper will allow me to make the copies they may need for homework, review work, or enrichment. Your generous donations will help ensure that my students will get a quality education and they will have a bright future!
