My students need yarn and knitting needles to teach themselves how to knit.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember that moment when you determined your passion? We are working to instill excitement and motivation for learning into our young ladies at an early age, while in middle school.
My girls are choosing a passion and creating a student-led project to better themselves.
In this part of Texas, I am the assistant principal for 300 girls, an advisor to 20, and an intervention teacher to all the 7th graders who are on their path to college. Ninety percent of them are from low-income households, but they don't let that barrier interfere with their dream. They have curiosity, integrity, self-respect, and a great amount of persistence! My school is part of a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools with a track record of preparing students in under-served communities for success in college and in life.
My Project
One of my passions is to develop the whole child, which includes academics, character, and instilling a sense of lifelong curiosity. My students who are showing high achievement in their academic classes right now received the opportunity to develop one of their passions based on their choice.
Some of my students recently became interested in entrepreneurship by knitting and selling their items.
Receiving these materials will allow my students to learn a skill at their own pace and feel success. It also helps instill the lifelong passion of learning, as I hope they continue to follow their passion and dreams.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
