Starting An Elementary School Band From Scratch, Part VII
My students need these method books, one set of music (score, parts), a music stand to put the score on, and a cymbal (with stand) to add to our growing instrumentation.

My Students
As you may or may not know already, my students live in a very impoverished section of Queens. Some students were even displaced by Hurricane Sandy. These students need a positive challenge to offset the negative challenges they face every day; an instrumental music program will do just that.
Almost all of my students receive free lunch, and the rest most likely receive reduced-price lunches.
They enjoy music even though our resources were very limited. I have discovered some true talent during my tenure at this school, and I glow every time I discover it. These students all deserve to have music be a part of their lives.
My Project
We have made it to Part VII (I can't even come up with a movie sequel that made it to Part VII) of my massive project to start an instrumental program. In this project I have requested a crash cymbal with stand, various method books (due to random donations of instruments to my program), and a set of score and parts for our music library for the instrumentation that includes so far (thanks to our friends and donors) four flutes, three clarinets, one alto saxophone, three trumpets, two trombones, a concert snare drum, and crash cymbals. I've also requested a set of score and parts.
A well-stocked music library is very necessary. We will also have various resources, such as age-appropriate theory, history, and piano books, which will help my students become more well-rounded musicians.

We have the potential to make a huge difference in the lives of these sweet and innocent children who need positivity in their lives. Besides the intrinsic value of having instrumental music in their lives, the extrinsic value of putting instrumental music on their middle school resumes would go a long way for these students who might not have a chance to get into a specialized school.
