Starting AMHS's Marine Biology Class!

Help me give my students a great experience in Marine Biology! We need a plankton net to collect and identify plankton, paper to present projects and any specimens that we can get to truly appreciate the ocean's diversity

My Project

This will be our first year offering our brand new Marine Biology class for our students at AMHS, and we need help getting up and running! The best way to study and value the diversity of the oceans is to get up close and personal with the animals that live there, and being able to see and compare different animal anatomy is vital for their learning. My goal for my students is to be able to identify the plankton that populate the ocean and provide us with 40% of our breathable oxygen, and the corals, echinoderms, mussels and other creatures that make up vital portions of the food web.

It is incredibly difficult to collect & appreciate plankton without the proper tools, and these preserved specimens will become ambassadors for their species for years to come.

Any materials that are purchased from this list will directly contribute to the classroom learning environment and be used year after year as examples and practice for identification before students embark on field trips to local beaches and participate in restoration projects. Many of these high school students will also continue their studies in college, and all lab experience will be useful for building their data collection and observational skills.
