Starter Resources for Cursive Writing

Help me give my students materials to support beginning cursive writing instruction. These include sentence strips for practicing, magnetic whiteboard strips that allow for modeling, and lined paper specifically designed for beginners to provide proper letter formation.

My Project

Students at my Title I school will enjoy each resource for a different reason, making cursive practice more engaging and effective.

Sentence Strips

Students love using sentence strips because they offer visible guides for forming cursive letters and sentences. The strips can easily be placed on desks or bulletin boards, providing a quick reference and example for students as they practice, which builds confidence in their writing.

Magnetic Whiteboard Strips

Magnetic whiteboard strips are fun because students can write, erase, and rewrite on them over and over. The ability to move strips around, clean them easily, and use them in small groups adds interactivity and variety to practice. Students especially enjoy how these strips turn writing into a hands-on activity that is easy to correct and repeat.

Lined Paper for Beginners

Students appreciate beginner-friendly lined paper because it helps them keep letters the right size and neatly placed. The clear guidance from double or dashed lines reduces confusion, supports even writing, and helps kids feel successful as they master their first cursive strokes.

Each resource provides both structure and opportunities for creative expression as students learn cursive writing.
