My Project
5th grade along with our school PTA would love to sponsor a welcome back KINDNESS Campaign/hotdog social to attract students and parents to join in and promote empathy & compassion for all. Everyone knows that sharing a meal brings all people together. While sharing a meal, families and students can get to know each other and see the world through the eyes of another person by discussing and pledging to practice compassion and kindness something everyone can agree on regardless of race, culture or gender.
Education goes far beyond the basics of reading, writing, and math.
As leaders of elementary school, 5th grade, will create a bulletin board with giant letters K_ND to remind students and anyone else who walks by that each one of us have the power to “Be the ‘I’ in KIND!”This is a chance students work as a team on a specific initiative and to be role models for the younger grades. It will be the focus during the kick-off hotdog social but will continue throughout the year. Each person can commit to take action by signing their name and parents & students can take a photo as the "I' in kind to pledge to be kind and promote it. Students often face cruel insensitive behavior from peers. This event shows that our school prioritizes empathy and standing up to help others in need. When students are supported by their peers, they are more likely to focus and succeed academically and emotionally.
We will continue promoting this throughout the year with additional KINDNESS/hotdog socials and will measure the success of the project by giving recognition (shout-outs announcements, on school social media, during assemblies) to students who are "caught" doing random acts of kindness. Our hope is that ALL students learn empathy and emotional intelligence needed to lead our communities kinder future.
