My Students

What makes kids want to read? Really cool books! What do kids love to read about? Animals, favorite characters, and funny things.

My students come from a very high-poverty area of Washington State.

85% of our school population qualifies for free-and reduced lunch. Many kids do not have books at home, and studies show that kids in poverty enter kindergarten with over 3 million word deficit, compared to their wealthier peers. Books in the classroom can change this!

My Project

These books are sure to inspire young readers to get reading. Kids love books about favorite characters and animals. Baby animals are so cute and interesting to look at, kids can't help but read the captions to learn more. This collection includes books about baby tigers, lions, and kangaroos. In addition, there are books about really interesting community helpers, like farmers and police officers.

Kids in poverty need additional motivation and support in order to overcome the hurdles life throws at them.

We can help by providing high-interest, high-quality books for them to read at school!
