My Project
I love my students’ kindness, curiosity, and the way they care for each other. Every day, they bring unique perspectives and a willingness to help build a positive classroom community. I want to support their growth not just academically, but also in their social and emotional development.
Helping young learners recognize and talk about their feelings, and practice kindness and friendship every day is one of my goals.
The greeting signs will give students a safe way to express how they’re feeling at the start of each day. This daily check-in builds self-awareness and fosters open conversations about emotions, both key elements of social and emotional learning (SEL). The bulletin board decorations showcase student work and SEL themes on our boards to build pride, celebrates diversity, and encourage students to value one another’s contributions. The pens and transparent sticky pads support students in writing thoughts, feelings, or questions during lessons, providing a safe way to share emotions and ideas, and fostering communication and reflection, which is a core SEL skills.
Another goal is to create a welcoming and organized space that is colorful and inviting, where every child feels safe, included, and proud. By organizing with the tape, name magnets, and number labels, this helps students feel a sense of belonging and responsibility, supporting their social confidence and independence. These improved pencil pails are easier for primary-aged students to understand how to use them by images and color coordinations. It creates easy access to supplies to reduce stress and encourages sharing and cooperation, to promote a supportive classroom environment.
I also have a goal to encourage positive choices. The extrinsic reward motivates students to demonstrate empathy, teamwork, and perseverance. Recognizing positive behaviors helps reinforce the social skills we work on in class.
