Start Spreading the Good News! Kids Do Great Things!

Help me give my students media tools to spread the word that Jr. High kids do great things! We went virtual during the pandemic and we want to use media tools to promote positive things at our school.

My Project

During the pandemic, I worked with a group of sixth-grade students to do a daily news show for our school and community! We had student reporters covering everything from the weather and local sports to special virtual spirit contests. We did whatever we could to keep our students and their families engaged and informed. We had them submit pictures of what they were doing to stay healthy and fit, and we even held a virtual talent show. We want to expand our capacity to spread all the good things that students are doing now that we are back on our campuses! We just need the tools. I am currently teaching media classes on two campuses in the WESD, and they could use this equipment to showcase all of the positive activities that teenagers are engaged in.

Although WESD technology has made great strides in the past few years, they are still behind the curve with respect to the tools necessary to produce quality projects for students to share with each other, their families, and their community.

In addition, the equipment requested in this project can be widely used. Classroom teachers could check out the equipment for special class projects. Coaches can use the equipment to film games. The music teacher could utilize the equipment to record concerts, and the student leadership class could promote their activities and joint ventures with the school parent groups. Having this equipment would take the daily morning announcements to the next level as the student-driven news show would have the tools to be more engaging and meaningful for the student body.
