My Project
I am a math teacher in a lower income area in rural Utah. We are a brand new school with several ESL and SpEd students. My students come with various skills, abilities, and backgrounds. I especially try to focus on my students stuck in the mindset of "I am bad at math", and try to change this to "I am still learning how to do math". Many of these students are not on grade level with problem solving and logical thinking skills. This disadvantage can make high school and math class feel impossible.
I LOVE teaching and cannot wait to get going in a few weeks!
This new school year is going to be extra exciting as we are a new high school with a mix of students coming from different schools. Each day with my students is an opportunity to show them that they can do hard things, including their math! We would benefit so much from your donation. Every little bit helps us reach our goal.
My Project
My students will use the resources of this project to fuel their brains. Many students come to school hungry, or get tired during classes. The snacks funded through this project will give students the energy they need to engage in active learning as well as give them the extra energy that they need in order to keep their minds sharp and ready for problem solving.
The new building we are starting in has amazing learning spaces, including whiteboard walls. My math students are going to be able to use the expo markers and erasers funded through this project to solve math problems on the walls, windows, and other writeable surfaces. Vertical problem solving will also allow them to practice daily in a low pressure, highly engaging environment.
