Starlight Star Bright!

My students need one Star Lab and 2-3 copies of 13 new updated books for our solar system library.

This project is fully funded

I am currently teaching K-6 science at my school. Our school is located in a high-needs neighborhood with limited funds. The school is listed as a Title I school. The enrollment here is 419 students out of which about 90% of them qualify for free or reduced lunch. I teach on average about 228 of these students.

These children come from households in which the parents are trying to provide them with the essentials for learning, although at times it is hard. All these children want is a chance to succeed and overcome many struggles they face on a day-to-day basis. As a teacher I come to school each day preparing an atmosphere for these children so that they can feel safe and loved. My smile may sometimes be the only smile they see that day. For me it is so important to show these children that I believe in them.

If we are afforded the opportunity to receive the needed materials we will be able to update our astronomy section of our science library and continue to have the updated materials to complete our research and science projects. Since the children live in an urban community the haze in the city makes it difficult to see common constellations. The star lab will help me create our night sky right in our own classroom and will help them see and study them up close and personal.

To me teaching is all about making the text come alive. With your help you can help me show the children how interesting and fascinating science can truly be.
