This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our 7th grade book list is in dire need of a refresh. I'm requesting two class sets of the novel, Starfish, by Lisa Fipps, to add to our classroom repertoire.

This powerful and engaging novel exposes students to some tough topics while also being lighthearted and easy to read.

The themes in the novel show students the power of standing up for their own self worth and claiming your right to "take up space" in the world. Written in verse form, it is also easily accessible to our many readers who perform at a less than proficient level.
