Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine... Waking up at 5:30 in the morning, cooking breakfast for the kids, getting them dressed and ready for school, walking them to the school gates, telling them to have a great day... then walking through those gates with your younger siblings, because at 11 years old, that is your responsibility.
This is a harsh reality for so many of my students.
At 10-12 years old, many of my students are forced to have many responsibilities that cannot be imagined. My students are fighting every day to balance their personal lives and school lives to make sure that they can become the contributors that they want to be in our growing and ever changing world. Despite the hand that these students are often dealt, my students try to remain positive and optimistic, but the classroom environment can definitely have an impact on the learning in the classroom. My students go to a Title I school where over 85% of the students are at poverty level, and 100% of the school receive free breakfasts and lunches. My students deserve the ability to come to a safe classroom and have the opportunity to be successful learners.
My Project
My school has so much talent, but as of now, much of it just sits idle. Students don't have enough of a chance to share their creativity with the world. We plan to change that! We have started an elementary school drama program and we will be excitedly casting a play! We want to give our students a place where they can perform and develop skills that would surely benefit them in the future!
Providing a creative outlet for my students to grow through can change their future!
Not only will this opportunity gives them a safe place to be creative during and after school, but it will prepare my students for for life by learning things like empathy and compassion! We are going to give them something that they are passionate about, while making it educational and fun!
