My Students
My school is a Title I school in Byron, GA. Many students come from low-income families and face impoverished living conditions. Many others come from families who do not speak English. Despite all of the hardships they have experienced in their young lives, our students come to school with smiles on their faces and are ready to learn each and every day.
My Project
The majority of my scholars say they don’t have books at home that are relevant to their interests. They tell me they don’t think there are many books out there that they can connect with. That’s why I want to start this special event, which I call our Starbooks Cafe.
First, I will select high-interest, culturally relevant YA titles and I will put four books on each table.
I will wear a green apron and I will set out hot chocolate. Once everything is just right, I will invite my scholars in. To get Starbooks Cafe up and running I am requesting tables and barstools.
