Starbooks Cafe for Our School!

Help me give my students (our students) an authentic reading lounge by creating their very own Starbooks Cafe complete with cozy seats, a comfortable rug, and new books provided by your donations!

My Students

We have a group of energetic, creative and thoughtful 4-9 year old future leaders at our building. These students deserve authentic experiences that drive their passion for learning. We also have a very dedicated staff that continues to improve the environment of our school.

It is my mission to design a unique and engaging reading lounge for students and teachers to use to enrich learning experiences.

We currently have a room designated for the reading lounge and we would like to transform this space into a reading cafe for not only readers but also writers and mathematicians! This project will benefit pre-k, kindergarten, first and second grade students. The room will be open to all learners in our building. It may even pique the interest of family events and turn into a family reading night!

My Project

We will utilize the materials in our school designated reading lounge. All classrooms will have the opportunity to visit the new "Starbooks" Cafe and complete fun and enriching activities with their students. Students will have an authentic experience as they test out new books, write their own books, or even participate in math investigations involving cafe math problems. I would love to invite local community members into our "Starbooks" to read aloud stories to our young learners as well! Students will be able to practice financial literacy strategies as they take over the leadership role in the cafe being a cashier, practicing addition and subtraction strategies with cafe menus, as well as practice literacy strategies with different books and activities in the cafe. They will get to cozy up just like real adults, while learning in alternate seating like the bean bag chairs, or on a new soft carpet.

The transformation will astonish and motivate our young readers!

We hope to engage the students, staff and families of our school by stepping up our creativity and enthusiasm for teaching.
