Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have been an grade level educator for 28 years at a Title I school. This is my first year as a Literacy Chairperson. I enjoy teaching and my students are dear to my heart. I will have 40 2nd grade students who will learn both Spanish and English in the dual language program.
In this class, I will nurture and service two classes throughout the day elementary school aged students with a diverse language experience.
Students are taught literacy and content in two languages.
In my years of teaching I have never imagined or experienced a pandemic such as covid 19. The closing of school last year and part virtual impacted student achievement. I am looking forward to making a difference. There is work to be done. I will create and design a literacy learning environment. A truly diverse collection of books can turn children into lifelong readers and promote empathy, understanding and confidence.
Thank You Kindly

My Project
I would like to create and design a library cafe of Starbooks for the Star students in our school cafeteria. Transforming a small area in the cafeteria into a dining and learning space. A vast variety of leveled books of interest will be used for students 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders.
This project will help stimulate meaningful conversation during lunch time and can also be used for the after care program when the students are in the cafeteria.
The funding will be used to purchase a couch for the student's reading pleasure. The comfy furniture addition makes for a more learning environment of fun. This project is a need at our school because the students enjoy bringing books to read in the cafeteria.
