My Students

I have the most wonderful students. They are hungry to learn, and show others what they have learned. They do not have access to the most current technology and appreciate when it is available for them to use.

Over 70% of our students come from homes that qualify for free and reduced lunch.

Even though they are from high poverty neighborhoods, they deserve to learn and use technology that other schools have access. They appreciate what they get and cherish when something is donated. My students love to show off. It takes time to build a culture of being proud of learning in this group of kids. When they have the right tools, they are proud of what they create, discover and learn.

My Project

My students need a LED projector. We have a document camera and LCD projector that is currently failing. The color has gone and the bulb indicator is lit indicating the bulb is about to expire. The bulb is no longer available for the projector, thus the reason we need to replace. My students use document cameras to focus attention on their process and product and away from themselves. I have seen students blossom with confidence because the don't have to "stand up and be in the spotlight." The focus is on the camera and screen. Students conduct labs, experiments and create project based learning to show mastery. The camera and projector are used to show the class they have learned the content and ready to move to the next.

I have seen students that are shy and terrified of speaking in front of others get in front of a room and speak with confidence.

I have seen kids that refuse to do classwork be the first to complete so they can be the first to show what they know. I have seen kids go from hating school and science to liking and bragging because they can show what they know. It has made a huge difference in the past and I'm afraid what will happen when we lose the projector.
