My students need two stand up desks to help them focus while they work independently. The kick stand will allow them to swing their feet without distracting or touching another classmate.
I teach 32 third grade students in a gifted and talented classroom setting. My students come from families who are new to the country. Some of my students require special services. My students come from varied backgrounds with different economic needs. My students are very bright and they seek enrichment activities.
They like to move, they love to read, and they love lots of positive attention.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status.
My students are creative, clever, and very spontaneous.
My Project
When people ask what tolerance means, I tell them that it is having acceptance for other people's preferences and beliefs. Most students sit in classrooms at desks with chairs, but not all kids work best sitting down.
My students will be able to remain on task while releasing energy with the kick stand.
Many fidget often and struggle with sitting in a chair and/or working at a desk I feel that giving kids the opportunity to work standing up will increase focus and decrease impulsive behaviors.
I am working on making my classroom a place where the differences of my kids are recognized and supported. For this reason, I am requesting two stand up desks to be utilized in my classroom.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
