Standards Aligned Dramatic Play

Help me give my students Dramatic Play items! Research shows that children learn through play. I would love to get them play items that align to our core standards in Science: plants and animals, and weather.

My Project

I would love to give my students more options for dramatic play that is aligned with the Science Core Standards. I have chosen objects that the students can be creative with, but also explore the ideas in their standards.

I have chosen a garden theme with garden boxes and fake vegetables with a wagon and tools to help immerse them into garden play.

I have also chosen animals that they could pretend to help as a veterinarian or as a caregiver to an animal. The last standard I wanted to include talks about recognizing weather and how to dress appropriately. In the items there are weather charts and paper dolls I will laminate and hang on the wall that they can dress in the weather outfit they choose. Also in the items there is a couple stuffed animals with dress up outfits that they could use to show how to dress for certain weather. I also use a kitchen area where the children explore community roles. I would love to add in the cash register to increase their creativity in play.

By adding in a time to play with ideas they are learning throughout their direct instruction the students will grasp more meaning. Research shows that children learn through play and that is what I would like to expand on in my classroom. There is set aside time for play in our class and the students would love having themed items that help them explore new concepts.
